Foundations From Which To Share The Gospel

Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18)

Point #1: Jesus said GO and make disciples.  Go to their turf and bring them the good news. Church may not be a comfortable place for many to receive the gospel. In a church service, they are in an unfamiliar environment, and easily distracted as they observe new people and new surroundings. As we share with them in an appropriate environment in which they are comfortable and familiar, they are more likely to be better able give undivided attention to what you are saying.

Point #2: Our commission is to preach the gospel and make disciples (disciplined learners) of those who believe. Our responsibility for new converts does not end when they receive Christ. We need to begin to teach them what Jesus has commanded, or see to it that someone else does. This is best done through the church.

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (Collosians 2:6-7)

Point #3: Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to empower us to be His witnesses.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—
in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
(Acts 1:8)

Point #4: Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit work with us when we share the gospel.

“While Peter was still speaking these words,
the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.” (Acts 10:44)

“Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere,
and the Lord worked with them
and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.” (John 16:20)

Point #5: If you are insecure about your ability to share the gospel, you can read through a (well written) gospel tract together with others. This will convey the gospel message in a logical and understandable way. In time you will develop confidence.

Until next blog... “occupy until He comes”.
